Our client is a well-known, highly reputable brand within the building services industry in Australia. Established in 2000 this market leader in the Design, Supply, Installation, Service & Maintenance of Residential, Commercial & Industrial fire services equipment has built a strong reputation for quality products and services. Due to ongoing projects this tier 1 industry leader have an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join their dynamic Sydney team!


About the Role

Reporting into the Managing Director you will be responsible for the management of the Design team as well as working alongside an experienced team of Project Managers and Designers where you will play an important role in engineering and design for both D&C and fully designed projects.


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide advice, leadership, direction, feedback and coaching to the Design team.
  • Communicate regularly with the Managing Director, Construction Manager, Minor Works Manager and Project Managers ensuring designs are completed within time and budgetary constraints of the Project.
  • Design Fire Protection systems in accordance with the required Australian Standards.
  • Manage all design coordination by attending meetings and producing high quality workshop drawings.
  • Review of design drawings and documentation.
  • Communicating with clients to understand design requirements.
  • Site visits and attending meetings.


Skills & experience required:

  • Degree in relevant area such as Engineering or a Trade Certificate in Fire Design, or equivalent.
  • Relevant industry experience with broad knowledge of fire systems (dry and wet) in the commercial construction industry.
  • Excellent knowledge and proficient usage of Microsoft office software, and knowledge of drafting software including AutoCAD, CADMEP, REVIT, BIM and similar software.
  • Ideally experience managing teams
  • Successful delivery of commercial fit-out, refurbishment and new build projects
  • Be able to communicate effectively on design issues at all levels
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting and respectful relationships at all levels
