Skilled – Sponsored visa (Subclass 176) occupations for Victoria

For migrants to Australia who find themselves ineligible for unsponsored skilled migration due to lack of sufficient immigration points, the Skilled – Sponsored visa (Subclass 176) offers the chance of permanent Australian residency.

A 176 visa is appropriate for applicants who have been sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a participating state or territory government.

All Australian states and territories participate in the 176 visa scheme; however, each state and territory has its own list of in-demand occupations eligible for sponsorship.

Changes noted in Victoria’s labour market led to the state introducing significant changes to its list of occupations eligible for sponsorship under the Subclass 176 visa in late 2008. The most recent list was updated on 21 July 2009.
