Mater Health Services, Brisbane
Mater Health Services provides exceptional care for more than half a million patients each year. Mater is a not-for-profit organisation comprising seven private hospitals, three of which provide public health services. Offering specialised Mothers’, Children’s and Adult facilities, Mater is Brisbane’s leading public and private collocated healthcare provider.
We offer compassionate service to the sick and needy, and promote an holistic approach to health care in response to changing community needs as well as fostering high standards of health-related education and research.
Mater currently employs more than 7000 staff within the medical, nursing, midwifery, allied health, pharmaceutical, and pathology fields, plus a diverse range of support services that assist and complement clinical staff.
Who we are
Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1906 Mater Health Services have been offering compassionate service to the sick and needy for more than 100 years. In 2002, Mater Health Services became an incorporated body, charged with the responsibility to continue the Mission of the Sisters of Mercy to ‘offer compassionate service to the sick and needy’.
Mater staff are dedicated to providing the highest quality health care services through a sincere commitment to Mater’s core values of Mercy, Dignity, Quality, Care and Commitment. These values guide interactions with patients and their families, each other and business partners.
Exceptional facilities
With the redeveloped Mothers' Public and Private Hospitals opened in 2008, and a major refurbishment of the Adult hospital complete, it is an exciting time of growth at Mater. The eight story Mater Mothers' Hospital is the premier maternity facility in the Southern Hemisphere with 88 public, 90 private maternity beds and 16 birthing rooms.
Mater’s Medical Research Institute and Mater Education Centre, located on site, provide staff with unique access to the most advanced and innovative techniques for management of illness and disease, as well as information about leading edge techniques in medical and surgical procedures. As a registered training organisation our team of educators and facilitators support and guide our staff through ongoing education opportunities on site as well as through affiliated tertiary institutions.
Exceptional lifestyle
The perfect place to raise a family, Brisbane is one of the safest cities in Australia and boasts a wide range of cultural attractions, numerous theatres, art galleries and a world class museum. The city is also well served by three universities and a range of other educational facilities.
Just an hour’s drive from famed golden beaches and the beautiful Gold and Sunshine Coasts, Brisbane is one of Australia’s most liveable and affordable capital cities.
