Fibre-optics company Finisar is looking overseas for talented engineering workers, after failing to find the right people in Australia.
The company is currently trying to recruit workers for its research and development centre in Sydney, New South Wales, and says it will need to increase its staff from 240 to around 300 by the end of the year.
“We’re growing around 20 to 30% per quarter. The growth looks very large but we’re still trying to play catch up with our customers,” explains Eitan Gertel, Finisar’s chief executive, as quoted by ZDNet. “It’s a good problem to have but it’s still a problem,” he adds.
According to Gertel, the company currently has around 40 to 50 open positions. “It’s not just specific telecomms people we want. We need a range of people; we need software engineers, we need mechanical engineers, we need physicists and we need production engineering people.”
