Jobs portal launched to fight aged care shortage in Western Australia

The Aged and Community Services of Western Australia (ACSWA) portal has been launched to serve as a focal point between providers of aged care jobs in Western Australia and job seekers looking for opportunities in the area.

The jobs portal, launched this week, will tackle the province’s aged care labour shortage. “It’s just one plank among a number of initiatives we are working on, but this is a key step because we are going to market aged care, in WA and beyond,” commented Stephen Kobelke, CEO of ACSWA.

According to Kobelke, the idea for the project came when the province’s providers were experiencing tough recruitment challenges. “My colleagues on the east coast have spoken about a skills shortage, but during that three to four year boom period in WA we simply had a human labour shortage.”

Kobelke added that the shortage has since “eased off” but is expected to return soon. The WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry has already predicted a shortfall of 150,000 workers over the next decade.
