Starting over in Sydney
Migrant Jenny Conroy shares her love of Australia and her thoughts on emigrating from the UK:
"I first came to Australia in 2000 as a backpacker and fell in love with the country and the way of life. When I returned home to the UK I never lost sight of the dream to come back and live here, and finally in July 2006 I made the big move.
"It's certainly challenging to make such a big step, leaving friends and family behind, finding a new home, new friends and of course a new job, but despite the hurdles I've really never looked back. Now, all this time later, I have a great job in the city for a Telco company, right in Darling Harbour, heaps of friends and a lovely apartment in the Eastern suburbs. Leaving behind the traffic of the M1 in the UK and now going to work on the ferry and seeing the Opera House and the bridge is the best way to start the day on a high.
"Sydney is a fantastic place to settle. It has all the offerings of a multicultural city without the hustle and bustle. The city can be explored on foot and there is always something new to see and do. With the many bars, restaurants, shows, concerts and festivals, it can be hard to fit them all in!"
