Family makes the move with Komatsu
I was working for Komatsu, UK, managing Celtic Energy Opencast Coal Mine M.A.R.C for seven years. My wife, Anne was employed by HSBC in the UK for 22 years and we had a 16-year-old son, Chris, when we decided to emigrate to Australia in November 2004.
We emigrated for a better lifestyle and future for our family, and especially for Chris who now is thoroughly enjoying his career working on ultra class mining equipment with Komatsu in the Pilbara Region, having completed an apprenticeship the standard of which was far better than the one I ever had in the UK.
My family and I now enjoy life in a better climate where infrastructure and utility costs are less and your money goes a lot further.
While with Komatsu Australia I have had the opportunity to work in a number of different roles and so too have my wife and son:
- I began my Australian career in NSW as the Project Manager Bulga Coal Singleton
- Anne worked for P&H Mine-Pro in Maitland
- Chris started apprenticeship with Komatsu in our Mt Thorley site as a plant mechanic.
- We moved to Orange NSW November 2007 where I was employed as the Project Manager at Cadia Valley Gold Mine
- Anne began work with Komatsu in January 2008 at Cadia Valley
- Chris transferred to work on 24/7 roster at Cadia M.A.R.C.
- We have now moved to Western Australia where I am enjoying my time working as the R.T.I.O. Customer Support Manager in Perth supporting Rio Tinto equipment of approx 220 machines
- Anne is also working in Perth with Komatsu
- Chris is employed at West Angeles Iron Ore Mine FIFO 2 & 1 on the AHS Project.
Komatsu supports you and your family and definitely focuses on career planning, if that’s what you are looking for. And, in turn, I suppose you can say they gained three employees for the price of one!
