Located in the world renowned western gateway to the Kimberley region, Broome offers the work-life balance you can only get on what the locals call “Broome Time”.

GP sessions in this group private practice run Monday to Friday between 0800 -1700 and with a rotating Saturday morning roster, weekends are free to explore the region’s spectacular natural beauty. There are no emergency or on call requirements for this position, however, a knowledge of and skills in minor procedures, management plans, industrial medicine, chronic disease, Implanon insertion and removal and interests in skin cancer and tropical medicine are desirable. Regular specialist and allied health visiting services are available and the current doctors have a broad range of special interests including aviation medicine and diving medicals.

Broome is the regional capital of the West Kimberley situated 2,200 kilometres north of Perth. Its population is around 16,000, but it is prone to a large seasonal influx.

Broome’s main industries are tourism, pearling, fishing, aquaculture, pastoral and horticulture.

Broome has a quirky, multi-cultural feel as a result of its history and geographical location. It is set between a vast red desert and azure blue sea, alongside a pure white beach.

The surrounding area is spectacular and varied, featuring arid desert, gorges, sandy beaches, escarpments, rainforests, waterfalls, open plains, river valleys and cave systems.  Cable Beach is the town’s most famous landmark, offering 22 kilometres of pristine white sandy beach. Off the beaches, there are shallow lagoons that harbour colourful coral, abundant marine life and shipwrecks.

Broome offers markets, museums, art galleries, cafés, restaurants and a wide variety of retail outlets. Regular festivals are interspersed with major annual events, including horse racing and visiting opera and symphony companies.

The climate is tropical, having wet and dry seasons, and experiencing high humidity in ‘the wet’.

Rural Health West

Rural Health West has an unparalleled understanding of general practice across rural Western Australia. We provide extensive support services to general practitioners who work in rural and remote Western Australia. These services include orientations to local medical practice, family support, financial incentives, education and upskilling.

Placements are available in regional centres, smaller communities and, for those doctors with suitable skills and experience, in solo practices. We are also seeking doctors to work within the Aboriginal Medical Services. These services are specialised medical facilities that address the specific health needs of Indigenous Australians.
