IPA Personnel is a recognised recruiter on behalf of New South Wales Health. Currently we have requirement for Career Medical Officers in Psychiatry for Sydney locations.

Essential Criteria:

1. Current registration as a medical practitioner in New South Wales (or eligible).
2. Minimum of two (2) years postgraduate experience.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
5. Current unrestricted NSW Drivers' Licence (or eligible)

Key Performance Areas/Duties:

Primary Function:
To ensure a high standard of clinical care is provided to patients under the supervision of consultant psychiatrist

Clinical Duties:
- Involvement in the diagnosis and management of Mental Health patients, including arranging requests for radiology and pathology tests, prescribing appropriate medications and arranging interventional treatment or referral for consultation, where required.
- Ensuring that an accurate history and examination, management plan, investigations and action taken are recorded in the patients medical record in the prescribed MH-OAT format including regular progress notes.
- Communicating and co-ordinating effectively with nursing and other staff in regard to management plans, diagnostic requests and consultations
- Regularly reviewing patients to ensure the management is carried out and outcome assessed
- Ensuring that review of all pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports is undertaken and advising the Consultant of relevant results
- Communicating any significant change in the patients condition to the Consultant and taking appropriate action
- Ensuring that new admissions and significant changes in clinical condition of patients are notified to the Consultant
- Ensuring ongoing support and information to the patient and family.
- Ensuring liaison occurs with the general practitioner (or other primary care personnel)
- Reviewing on a daily basis inpatients under care of team
- Attending ward rounds and review with Consultant
- Ensuring effective discharge planning occurs for the patient, family and other care givers and an adequate and timely discharge summary is provided to those involved in after care, including the general practitioner and the Consultant
-Meeting requirements of Mental Health Act for certification, reports and presentations to magistrate's inquiries and mental health review tribunals.

Training and quality activities
- Meeting mandatory training requirements stipulated by the M.H Program.
- Obtaining and maintaining Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support accreditation.
- Participating in unit/departmental and divisional quality activities.
- Educating other staff as required including medical students and more junior medical staff.

Performance Measurement:
- Review by Chief Psychiatrist.
- Attendance at departmental meetings, & training sessions.

These positions are scheduled to commence in early 2010, however start date may be negotiated. Placement will be for as minimum of 12 months with the opportunity of extension.
