Environmental (Public) Health Officers required throughout Western Australian Councils.

Between the 141 Local Councils in Western Australia there exists a severe shortage of qualified Environmental Health Officers.

Environmental Health in Western Australia is a generalist role in which the practitioner is expected to have the necessary skills and experience to deal with all the different facets of the discipline.

Key Activities:

• Undertake the duties of an authorised officer under the Health Act 1911, Local Government Act and Environmental Protection Act.
• Food Hygiene & Quality Control - conduct inspections of food vendors, manufacturers & temporary food stalls, assess construction plans, education programs, food premises licensing & complaint investigation
• Food Sampling Programs - conduct chemical, microbiological & forensic food monitoring.
• Disease Control - notifiable disease investigations, vector surveillance, control & monitoring, skin penetration establishments, hairdressing establishments, contaminated sites, sewerage, effluent & liquid waste disposal, air handling systems & cooling towers
• Water Sampling Programs - public swimming pools, beaches, River, drinking water and other water sources.
• Environmental Health issues - liquor licensing, public events, offensive trades, nuisances, industrial waste, air pollution, asbestos, dust, odour, noise, microwave ovens, emergency management, health promotion & smoking in enclosed public places
• Built Environment - public buildings, licensed premises, lodging houses, dwellings, caravan parks & camping grounds
• Administration - correspondence, reports, policy and local law development, record keeping, statistical reporting, processing licenses & approvals, attending meetings & training

Qualifications/Experience

Two years experience in a general EHO role is desired.

A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health is required for this role.
