Urban and Regional Town Planners Needed across Western Australia.

Urban and Regional Town Planners are needed across Western Australia’s 141 Local Councils in both Junior and Senior positions – in strategic and statutory areas.

About the role:

 Manager Duties:

§  Administer Council’s strategic and statutory land use role and functions including the oversight of the development of a new town planning scheme, structure plan, local planning strategy and scheme amendments.

§   To administer and have prime responsibility for receiving and processing planning approvals relating to Council’s Town Planning Scheme in accordance with delegated authority, and to promptly scrutinise them to establish compliance with the Scheme.

§  Report on all town planning matters, and to supply a monthly report regarding the activities of the Town Planning Section.

§  Assist other relevant Senior Officers in any land development projects, including the release and identification of land to meet future growth and development requirements.

§  Formulate, administer, monitor and review (as necessary) local land use and development policies, plans and programs.

§  Maintain/update the Shire’s thematic maps, plans inventory and demographic databases.

 

Officer Duties:

§  Provide professional advice and information to customers at the front counter and telephone, and on site service to customers, related to the town planning and development services function of the Council.

§  Ensure development is undertaken and maintained in accordance with the relevant approval, and undertake compliance activities relating to unauthorised development.

§  Undertake site inspections of finalised developments in accordance with the relevant acts and bylaws.

§  Undertake assessments and prepare reports for Council on planning applications in accordance with the relevant acts and legislation.

§  Assist in the administration of Councils’ strategic and statutory land use role and functions.

§  Assist in the formulation, administration, monitoring and review (as necessary) of local land use and development policies, plans and programs.

§  Maintain/update the Councils thematic maps and plans inventory and demographic databases.

§  Attend Council and other meetings as required.

 
Qualifications/Experience

 Experience in the planning field either in public or private sector.

 A Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent is required for this role.
