Reporting to the Senior Transmission Planning Engineer, the Transmission Planning Engineer is responsible for the timely approval of individual projects to ensure the current and future adequacy and security of the company's transmission, sub-transmission and distribution networks.

Working as part of an established team, you will be responsible for: -

- Providing expert technical advice/consultancy service on a wide range of transmission and sub-transmission planning issues.
- Providing project specific transmission, sub-transmission and distribution planning studies.
- Producing timely, comprehensive and cost effective planning reports to obtain approval for the reinforcement of transmission, sub-transmission and distribution networks.
- Providing advice on current and future network capabilities, long term plans and development strategies to all stakeholders, including advice on network capabilities under contingent operating conditions.
- Developing detailed scope for identified special projects, complete the analysis for these projects and prepare report/documentation to enable them to be initiated.
- Ensuring network planning processes and the department's Quality Systems are adhered to
- Assisting in the provision of on-the-job training for Transmission Planning staff, graduates, and trainees.

The successful applicant will be degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years in a similar role. Specific experience in the planning and operation of transmission and sub-transmission networks with particular emphasis on power system development is essential, as is experience in economic and financial evaluation, statistical techniques and power system calculations including voltage studies and reliability analysis. A demonstrated knowledge in electricity distribution and transmission systems, in particular primary and secondary plant and equipment, including the design, construction and maintenance of electricity distribution and transmission systems, as well as underground and overhead mains, HV and distribution substations, protection and control systems is also required.
