John Holland is one of Australia’s leading construction and engineering companies, with a record of achievement in the Power, Rail, Structural Mechanical Process, Telecoms, Mining and Water sectors with work in hand of approximately 4.0 billion dollars. We are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people for the position of Commercial Manager for our X50 project located at the Abbot Point coal terminal in central Queensland.
The project is located at Abbot Point, approximately 30 km by road north of the sub tropical paradise of Bowen, on the Central Queensland coast. The duration of the project is expected to be around 20 months, however, the opportunity for ongoing work on other projects in the region is very likely. The project consists of widening an existing jetty with a new outloading conveyor system, roadway and other associated works. This project presents some exciting heavy engineering and construction opportunities in a very desirable location.
Bowen is a support and residential hub to the Collinsville coal region. It’s coastal location and the greenery of the surrounding small crops, makes it one of the most desirable areas to live in tropical central Queensland. Airports are at Proserpine (approx 1 hour south and or Mackay - a little over two hours to the south) and Townsville (about two hours north). In its capacity as a regional centre, Bowen enjoys a relatively high level of amenity with a ‘country’ feel. The famous resort of Airlie Beach is located about an hours drive south of Bowen.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
• Maintaining and controlling effective project controls, contract, commercial and administrative functions
• Developing, implementing and managing project controls systems, including scope development
• Progress reporting, estimating, bid development, contract administration and variation management
• Reconciliation, data evaluation and interrogation
• Adapting existing systems to meet project/client specific requirements
• Staff development and supervision
• Proactively contributing to maintain our ‘Zero harm’ culture
Demonstrated competencies in effectively negotiating and communicating at a senior level with clients on major construction projects are necessary pre-requisites for this position. Previous commercial management experience within the construction industry on large-scale construction contracts will be highly regarded. You may be required to start in our Brisbane Office for a few weeks before relocating to Bowen.
