Department of Main Roads is investing $16.2 billion over the next five years on road and transport infrastructure that will connect our future, while simultaneously managing the State’s largest asset – some 35,500 km of road network valued at over $37 billion. South East Queensland faces significant transport challenges arising from strong population and economic growth. The State Government has adopted a major program of transport infrastructure development, a strategy to manage road congestion and a range of long term strategic planning activities. The State Wide Planning Group is heavily involved in the further development of these initiatives and leads the Department's strategic network planning functions.

The South East Queensland Network Planning Division of State Wide Planning is responsible for strategic planning for road based transport outcomes on State controlled roads. As Director (Infrastructure Planning) you will focus on achieving transport outcomes through a strategic, innovative and staged program of planned infrastructure development. Your ability to combine land use and transport planning (including demand management) methods, and partner with other divisions of Main Roads is essential.

Some of your key responsibilities include:

- Providing expert advice on the requirement for road based transport infrastructure.

- Ensuring that major infrastructure projects fulfil the required strategic purpose by influencing scope development and concept planning to business case preparation.

- Overseeing and leading the annual revision of the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program consistent with objectives of the Regional Plan.

Whilst formal qualifications are not mandatory, a relevant Civil Engineering or Planning degree would be highly regarded, as would experience in integrated transport and land use planning at a strategic level.

In return for your highly developed strategic network planning and land use management skills, you will be rewarded with excellent learning and development opportunities, as well as the chance to impact the future direction of this large and dynamic organisation. The total remuneration package for this SO1 role ranges from $149,110 - $156,015 per annum, including infrastructure program loading. Main Roads provide excellent benefits including flexible work hours, study assistance, and salary packaging options.

Applications close on 25th August 2008.
