Australian citizenship celebrations welcome new Aussies

Thousands of people celebrated gaining their Australian citizenship in celebrations held throughout Australia on 26 January 2007.

Ceremonies were held in each state as new Australian citizens were welcomed.

New Australian citizens include:

  • In ACT more than 120 people from 37 different countries gained Australian citizenship
  • In NSW more than 3,500 people from 77 different countries gained Australian citizenship
  • In Queensland more than 3,100 people from 91 gained Australian citizenship
  • In South Australia more than 1,260 people became Australian citizens
  • In Western Australia more than 1,100 people from 75 different countries gained Australian citizenship
  • In Northern Territory more than 120 people from 33 different countries became Australian citizens
  • In Tasmania more than 260 people from 44 countries gained Australian citizenship
