Main business activity
Ensuring that Western Australia’s water resources are planned and managed to meet community requirements, now and into the future.
Who we are
The Department of Water is a government agency that leads the management of the state’s water resources. We do this by informing the government and the community on the quantity, quality, use and availability of the state’s water resources and by ensuring that West Australians have access to water services.
What we do
We provide comprehensive information to industry, expert technical support and professional guidance to government on the status of water and the viability of new source development. The water-resources portfolio in government carries with it enormous responsibility and includes making sound decisions based on solid scientific evidence and accurate information.
We collect and analyse water resources information, issue licences, regulate water use, protect the quality of our water, and prepare policies and plans critical to the future development of Western Australia.
