The Waikato District Health Board is one of the largest providers of healthcare in New Zealand with more than 5,500 employees providing a comprehensive range of services to local communities, and tertiary and trauma co-ordination services to the central North Island regional population of 800,000.
Waikato Hospital
Waikato Hospital is a 600-bed base hospital located in Hamilton. It is a specialised teaching hospital with links to Auckland University and has all diagnostic and treatment facilities on one campus. It is a public hospital with specialist primary, secondary and tertiary services, offering the latest equipment and technology. It has an extensive onsite library service and dedicated Education Centre to support your ongoing educational and research needs. Waikato Hospital is currently undertaking a signifi cant Service and Campus Redevelopment which involves changing how we deliver health services and remodelling our facilities accordingly. Implementation started in 2004 and should be complete in 2012. Amongst others, this redevelopment includes a new Emergency Department. Access to specialist tertiary health services for the Waikato DHB’s population is easy due to Waikato Hospital’s central location within the region, with excellent road and air ambulance support.
